What is SkillsUSA?

Representing nearly 400,000 career and technical education students and teachers, SkillsUSA chapters thrive in middle schools, high schools and college/postsecondary institutions nationwide. Our mission is accomplished through the SkillsUSA Framework of Personal Skills, Workplace Skills and Technical Skills Grounded in Academics, which is integrated into the classroom curriculum.

Through the Framework, SkillsUSA students hone their hands-on skills against current industry standards in more than 140 occupational areas, from 3-D Animation to Welding and nearly everything in between. At the same time, they develop the transformative career-readiness skills — teamwork, communication, professionalism, leadership and more — that fuel career and life success.

A vital solution to the ongoing skills gap, where more highly skilled jobs are available than skilled professionals ready to fill them, SkillsUSA has served more than 14.6 million diverse, difference-making members since 1965.

What CTC students say about SkillsUSA

Brooklynn Haney: SkillsUSA has really helped me grow as a young person. It has helped me become more of a people person and helped with my confidence. I am able to talk to new people and in front of crowds, and this was something I never thought I’d be able to do. Isabella Moore: Coming to a new high school with all new people from schools around the whole county my junior year was very scary. Having the opportunity to join an organization that involves so many people from around the state has given me the opportunity to meet and be friends with loads of people. Not to mention the people I’ve met in our chapter, have become some of my closest friends, and helped me to adapt to this new environment. Another thing I’d like to add is my confidence has improved astronomically, being able to speak in front of large groups of people and not freak out. The last thing I would like to say is I’m so glad I took a chance on something new, because I have definitely become the best version of myself through SkillsUSA.

Aleysia Gayheart: How have you grown as a young person because of SkillsUSA? Being in SkillsUSA I have grown as a young person by stepping out of my comfort zone and doing things I personally never thought I’d do. What opportunities have you gained from being involved in SkillsUSA? I have gained many opportunities by being in this leadership group such as learning to speak in front of a crowd of people and how to be a part of networking. Something positive about being involved in SkillsUSA? There are many positive things about this group starting with meeting a lot of new people, and helping others grow. What do you like most about SkillsUSA? The thing I like the most about being a part of SkillsUSA is that I have got to meet many new people and become more professional with everything I do.

Xzavyier Mines: How have you grown as a young person because of SkillsUSA? I feel that being in SkillsUSA has further my professional skills, work place skills, personal skills, and also has just made me a better speaker. What opportunities have you gained from being involved in SkillsUSA? I’ve gained so many different things from being in skillsUSA from professionalism, better confident speaking, being social, networking. Something positive about being involved in SkillsUSA? SkillsUSA brings people together from different backgrounds and different parts of the country. What do you like most about SkillsUSA? I like the fact that skillsUSA has brought me out of my comfort zone.
