What is National Honor Society?
The National Honor Society (NHS) is one of the most prestigious high school organizations in the United States. It was created to recognize well-rounded students who excel in four pillars: Scholarship, Service, Leadership, and Character. It empowers and recognizes proficient students by providing schools with values-based structure to cultivate a culture of scholarship, service, leadership, and character.
What does CTC's chapter of NHS do?
The NHS chapter here at CTC participates in many different types of service to better our community! Common ways of achieving their goal is participating in food drives, assisting in holiday drives, clean-ups around the city, and helping students connect with each other.
Who can join the NHS?
- Students in grades 10-12
- If you are invited and selected
- Direct applications aren't accepted
- Have a minimum of a cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
- Have voluntarily contributed to the school or community
- Those who demonstrate good problem solving and leadership in both classroom and extracurricular activities
- Those that uphold standards of honesty, integrity, and cooperation
How can I participate in the NHS?
Members of the NHS will be asked to help in several community service opportunities throughout the year. The CTC's NHS partners with the Second Harvest Food Bank to help organize, donate food, and package food. Students help with hosting and assisting school and community blood drives. There can be clothing, food, and holiday gift drives.
What is the benefit of being in the NHS?
The National Honor Society is a nationally recognized organization. Membership can help you stand out to universities and colleges that you apply to. Members of the NHS gain access to the NHS Scholarship program, which awards significant financial aid to qualifying seniors. Students are given access to exclusive events like LEAD Conferences and are empowered to organize and lead community service projects.
