CTC Levy Passes: Thank You Voters!

CTC Levy Passes: Thank You Voters!
Springfield-Clark Career Technology Center (CTC) is celebrating the passage of a crucial tax levy that will provide funding for the construction of a new career-technology school facility. The new facility will be a cohesive campus and eliminate the challenges the school currently faces as it operates out of seven, aging buildings. We are incredibly grateful for the Clark County voters for seeing how critical the CTC is to this community and for showing their widespread support.

“We are ecstatic, thrilled really, that the levy passed. We know from our efforts last fall that other school districts in the county went to the polls numerous times and are excited that it passed on the third try. We are extremely grateful for the county-wide support!”, exclaimed CTC’s Superintendent Michelle Patrick. “The students of Clark County deserve a safe and accessible learning environment that helps them be successful in school and after graduation.

The passage of the levy ensures CTC’s 60-year legacy will continue and helps us move forward in so many ways including, a safer more secure campus, larger learning spaces, updated equipment, an energy efficient facility, and updated technology to ensure CTC students are Career Ready, College Ready, and Life Ready!”

Local and State Funding: A Dynamic Duo

The levy was approved by a 56.51% to 43.49% county-wide vote (preliminary results released from the Clark County Board of Elections) in the general election held November 5. The 1.4 mil levy will generate $51.3 million in funding for the new facility. The remaining $38.7 million in funding will come from the Ohio Facilities Construction Commission (OFCC).

CTC’s Mission: A Unifying Force for the Community

Jamie Callan, President of the Board of Education, shared his gratitude, “On behalf of the Board of Education, I would like to thank the many supporters that came together from across the county to form the Committee for Career Development. Committee volunteers came from all school districts, from business and industry, from alumni and from various walks of life. The common thread was that each of us know how critical CTC is to workforce development in our community. The board is grateful for the time, energy, and passion of the volunteers. They worked tirelessly behind the scenes placing signs, attending events, securing financial donations, and spreading the message about the importance of the CTC/JVS to this community.”

Next Steps: Location and Timeline

“I’m very excited to help CTC embark on this journey! I’m looking forward to getting this project started and working with the Ohio Facilities & Construction Commission (OFCC),” shared Julie Wallace, CTC’s Treasurer. “I am excited to immediately start working with our Superintendent, Board of Education, and consultants to dive into the financial plans and next steps.”

The new facility will be constructed on CTC's current property on Selma Road. The ideal location on the campus would be south and slightly east of Buildings B and C. Using the school’s existing property was financially beneficial and helped to hasten the project’s timeline. Groundbreaking for the new facility will be announced in the coming months as the project gets underway.
