On April 24 and 25, we had forty-two students attend the SkillsUSA State Championships at the Columbus Convention Center. There were over five thousand SkillsUSA student members, advisors, parents and industry partners from Ohio in attendance. We had thirty-four students compete in various skill and leadership competitions. Except for a couple of state contests, students had to place in the top three at the Southwest Regional Competitions to advance to the State Conference. The following students received metals because they placed in the top three in the state of Ohio:

Olivia Browning (A Springfield High senior in the Culinary Arts Program) took 3rd place in the Culinary Arts Competition

Chelsea Shafer (a Shawnee senior in the Computer Graphic Arts Program), Katie Ferguson (a Shawnee senior in the Computer Graphic Arts Program) and Amaya Taylor (a Shawnee senior in the Computer Graphic Arts Program), took 2nd place in the Promotional Bulletin Board.

Kara Horn (a Tecumseh senior in the Engineering/CNC Program) took 2nd place in the Extemporaneous Speaking Competition

Makenzie Nordyke (a Tecumseh senior in the EMT Program) took 1st place in the First Aid/CPR Competition

McKayla Craig (a Springfield High senior in the Medical Assisting Program) took 1st place in the Medical Assisting Competition

Makenzie Nordyke and McKayla Craig as state gold medal winners will be invited to represent the Springfield-Clark CTC and the State of Ohio at the SkillsUSA National Conference in Louisville, Kentucky on June 18-23, 2018.
